The last vineyard

Climate change effects

The project results from an analysis of climate change and how it affects everything around us. Among the various consequences found, desertification has been analyzed. The installation wants to symbolize the progressive process of desertification that involves Italy and its wine economy that will be irreversibly affected. Therefore, the artwork represents the last Italian vineyard, which will crumble in time until it will disappear. The structure is made of new biological material with low energy consumption, made of compostable bricks, which crumble due to atmospheric agents.

The installation takes place in Piazza Santa Maria Delle Grazie. The structure follows the shape of the square and is 5 meters high. Four entrances form walkways and symbolize the dry earth’s cracks due to desertification. Internally it is composed of several levels, which recall the shapes of typical Italian vineyards.
