The subjective house book

– Developed for Studio8

This editorial stems from the transposition of a housing project into a print medium. In particular, the villa in question, located in Dali, China, is characterized by a lack of identity (before Studio8’s intervention). This is the driving force behind the research. The lack of identity that takes shape in a black monolithic object contains such a lack of identity that it becomes the characterizing identity. Like the house, the book is divided into four sections: each presents a different experience that takes shape in a separate booklet.

Four experiences

Lack of identity takes shape in a black cube that is divided into four booklets. Each of them is an entrance to an experience. Each booklet is made differently, both from a conceptual and a material point of view. Each of them wants to be an element of research of the possibilities obtained in the design of interiors. The paper texture weight varies depending on the component it has to represent.

The booklets are four: introduction, self, water, and earth. The book “sé” wants to be an attempt to explore ourselves and what surrounds us with other eyes, reversing our perspective, trying to leave a mark. “Acqua” talks about reflection, while “terra” shows, with a game of textures and materials, the importance of materiality.

The outer cube is produced with 3d print technology. The inner booklets are created with different types and thicknesses of paper, bound with Japanese binding.

The booklets are to be observed, touched, opened, closed. As the villa’s interior space, they are an experience that changes over time and with ourselves.
