Trait d’union
This booklet was created from the interior design.
In particular, we wanted to illustrate a story that could highlight the two “invisible” elements that become “visible” by applying the metaphor of the trait d’union: the sun and the wind.
The wind
The wind is a natural element that is not visible directly by the human eye because of this physical inconsistency. It is typically perceived by the other senses and visually only through the effect generated by itself. As addressed in Trait d’union (Interior section) previously, the wind is visible on the building’s roof through 400 pinwheels.
In the same way, in this small book, we want to show its physicality and the wind effect on paper support. Inside the book, the wind will be the protagonist of some illustration: in particular, through the moirè effect, its movement will be visible. At the start of the story, based on a character’s adventure, the wind conception is negative, but this perception changes, evolving through the building. On the roof, finally, this force acquires positivity showing the hidden beauty.

The moirè effect could be obtained through two supports: one is an illustration generated by the superposition of images in sequence, printed on a white paper sheet; the other is a striped acetate that will create the movement in this illustrated book.
The technique used here in this book is composed of a superposition of two illustrations, one red and one blue. With two lenses, again blue and red, the image will come to life: it will be possible to observe or one or the other illustration depending on which lens is used.
The sun
Despite being a natural element essential for life, the sun is usually associated with its image in the sky. Its distinct components are omitted. Thinking to the sun rays, for example, they allow perceiving the space, like in the building stairs, where the sun is visible through some mirrors that reflect his rays coming from the roof. This small book has the same aim. On paper support, the sun became the protagonist of a story, where its perception is different along the way. In the first pages, the light will not be visible and will be ignored by the character. During the course into the building then, the sun will be valorized again.
